i finally get it... why people fall so head over heels in love with the desert. it's got a magic i've never seen in any other place. it pulls you in + makes it hard for you to let go. i knew i was in for a treat when chad + emily asked if i'd be willing to fly out to joshua tree from brooklyn to shoot their wedding. here's what they said :
We are Brooklynites - living in North Slope - with a deep love of the desert. We get out in it as often as possible. Chad's LA tribe camps out in the Mojave frequently and their gathering place, when they aren't camping, is the 29 Palms Inn, Twentynine Palms CA (at the entrance to Joshua tree Natl Park). It's a groovy rustic old school Inn, a collection of adobe bungalows that sits on a natural oasis of (you guessed it) 29 palms. When Chad proposed, there was no question where we would gather our people. We will be taking over the Inn for the weekend - the times in between, visiting, eating at the restaurant, hanging by the pool - is a big part of it's magic. The party will be at dusk (and deep into the night - we like to dance dance) on the lawn under the stars. For the ceremony, we'll be taking our guests out into the desert (20 minute drive). We found an amazing spot - a bouldered cascading rock cathedral!
the day was so full of intention, love, + celebration. my favorite thing about it was that they had explored joshua tree national park endlessly to find the perfect spot for their ceremony. way deep in the middle of nowhere... they transported their guests... to a secret spot flanked by boulders + joshua trees, + graced by silence + beauty. + there they said their very personal + private vows. it was a ceremony like non other. i'll let the photos speak to it. big thank you to kristin guy for being my amazing wing women the day of. + of course to 29 palms inn for providing the backdrop to such a great party... if you ever find the chance... get yourself to the desert.
