i think it's so amazing that we live in a time where you can go take a workshop from someone in the biz, + learn all the things that school could never teach you about what it takes to own + operate a freelance business. the photography industry is saturated with workshops... + for good reason too... there's a huge market of people just dying to absorb all they can from the pros, + $750-$1500 may seem like a lot of money... but not when you consider what you're saving yourself with basic trial by error methods. with all the workshops out there, there's only one i've been sincerely interested in participating in... the lyon-shop run by justin + amelia lyon. my interest was directed particularly towards this workshop, because i wasn't so much interested in learning how to use a camera, or use photoshop actions, or photograph people... i was looking to learn more about running a successful business + have a huge amount of respect for how the lyon's run a hugely successful + creative business while still prioritizing family time, personal time, together time, + down time. long story short i left a 28 degree manhattan, ny for a 75 degree manhattan beach, ca for three days of some serious fun in the sun with two of my favorite girlfriends + one seriously awesome workshop. some of my favorite takeaways?
- limiting blog reading
- making your business make you more money
- fine tuning that time management monster, with some really simple workflow solutions + rules to live by
- educating clients + nailing client meetings...
there's was tons more super insightful hands on learning that i took from the day... + really did feel like the experience as a whole was incredibly worthwhile not to mention totally fun. it was a great reminder that we should never stop learning from others, + that one should never stop investing not only in one's self but also in one's business. here's a couple iphone pics below... along with a photo of me + my girlfriend chelsea, who's my partner in crime when we head to india in january for a month... more on that soon... xo,
