i've been thinking a lot about personal work lately. i don't do enough of it. it's so hard to find the time, honestly. the nature of my wedding work is funny. it's seasonal to an extreme. april-october are slammin to say the least... november + december are brimming with family portraits + holiday madness. january + febuary are slower shooting wise, but still pretty work heavy with wrapping up the previous season.... + that leaves march. wide open + blissfully quiet until it all starts again in april. i took opportunity this march to return home to hawaii... to breathe. to rest. to re-focus some energies on the next season ahead. hawaii is a beautiful place to do such a thing... + i don't think you can getaway to somewhere more extremely different than New York City. i'm surrounded by quiet. lush greenery. a much slower pace of life. i love it. i love the break it gives me from my New York life, + I love how much more it makes me fall in love with NY all over again while i'm away. but i digress... i've shot very little personal work the past two years. i think it's one reason i love instagram so much. shooting for the pure love of shooting. so i'm revisiting some old projects + reinventing some new ones. i'm taking some of this down time to re-vamp my travel portfolio, + in the process re-visited an amazing trip to africa that i took a few years ago. a trip purely for personal shooting. these images haven't seen much light. i think it's time to bring them back out... enjoy.
